Musical Routes
This musical guided tour in Valladolid offers a different experience to a conventional itinerary through the city, as the route alternates historical-artistic explanations with melodies played on the violin, all of them belonging to the traditional and folk music of the province of Valladolid. In this way, visitors can learn about the history of the material and monumental heritage of the city, but also about the immaterial heritage of the traditional music of the area: processional dances, dancers' parades, marches, dianas, baile corridos, jotas, fandangos...
The tour begins in Plaza Zorrilla, an area where the old Valladolid and the nineteenth-century expansion of the city converge. Nearby is the house where Miguel de Cervantes lived for a time: from its entrance garden we will explain the curious events that took place there in 1605 in which the illustrious writer and his family were involved. Through Santiago street we will discover the old convent of Las Francesas with its characteristic cloister of the tabas. From there we will go on to the Plaza Mayor with its characteristic porticoed appearance, a model for many other 16th century squares. Through the narrow streets surrounding the convent and palace area of Valladolid we will reach the Royal Palace, with the impressive Elizabethan Gothic buildings of San Pablo and the college of San Gregorio (now the National Sculpture Museum). The visit will end in the curious square of the Old Coso, where we will remember the different uses of the place from its construction to the present day.
